David Brown doesn’t quite know the difference between information systems and analysis software:
Epstein said in the Chicago Tribune on Thursday that the Cubs were partnering with Bloomberg Sports to build a new information system in Chicago, one that would get them “up to speed” with the rest of Major League Baseball.
…
In Boston, Epstein and his big-brained posse could rely on “Carmine,” a computer system that managed all of the team’s pertinent information. It’s one of the things Theo could not take with him to Chicago.
Carmine did not manage information. What Theo is talking about in the first paragraph is a database system for storing and retrieving data. Carmine was software for processing that data to rate ball players. While I’m sure the Cubs will develop a Carmine like program at some point (I would not be surprised if they already have one), yesterday’s announcement doesn’t have a lot to do with that.
