Foot Fault

Pat Burrell‘s foot forces him out of baseball:

Burrell, 35, apparently is unable to continue his career because of a chronic foot injury.

He batted .230 with seven homers and 21 RBIs in only 92 games last season with the Giants.

His triple crown stats don’t tell the story of his career, however. Although he batter a mere .253. Burrell did a great job drawing walks, ending with a .361 OBP. He also knocked over 600 extra base hits, finishing one double and seven homers short of 300. He came close to 44% of his hits going for extra bases.

The walks were not always appreciated. With men in scoring position, his BA went up seven points, but his OBP went up 20 as was very willing to take a walk. This could irk fans, as they wanted to see him drive in runs. He did draw 26 walks and two hit by pitches in his 183 plate appearances with the bases loaded.

I think he really got hurt doing some crazy stuff with Brian Wilson.

Does anyone yet know why he was on the field celebrating after the Cardinals won the World Series last year? That was bizarre.
