A Character

Bob McManaman writes about Trevor Bauer, a Diamondbacks pitching prospect unusual in every way. The picture of Bauer throwing is intriguing by itself, but is the timing of his long toss, his last warm-up pitch, and the way he competes:

“I don’t really compete against the hitter. I compete against myself to execute pitches. I could face 10-year-olds in the box and have it be pretty much the same benefit to me as facing major-league hitters.”

Could he join Fernando and Fidrych in the annals of colorful personalities on the mound?
