Luke Hochevar pitched to Humberto Quintero for the first time today, and liked the results:
“I was really impressed with Quintero today,” Hochevar said. “For never catching me, he looked at some videos last night, and I felt like he did a fabulous job pitch calling. Granted he knows these guys, but this is the first time he caught me in a game, so that really pumped me up. We were right on the same page all day long.”
Luke struck out eight and walked none in six innings. Mike Fast rates Quintero as an average pitch framer, but Hochevar talks about calling the right pitch. It will be interesting to see how he works with Jonathan Sanchez, who has a tendency to be wild. If Quintero can get that under control, this trade might pay big dividends for the Royals.
