Brendan Ryan doubles leading off the 11th for the Mariners. It’s the first hit for Seattle since the sixth inning. They are tied with the Athletics at one in a well pitched game.
Update: Chone Figgins sacrifices Ryan to third for Dustin Ackley.
Update: Ackley singles up the middle to drive in the run and give Seattle a 2-1 lead. He homered earlier for Seattle’s first run.
Update: Ackley steals second.
Update: Ichiro singles up the middle for his fourth hit of the game and his first RBI. Suzuki gets caught in a rundown for the second out, but the Mariners get an insurance run and lead 3-1.
Ackley drives in the run. Baseball might have to get rid of him. Can’t have anybody producing runs nowadays.
Halfway seriously, this game shows how hopeless both of these teams’ offenses are. Sure, that’s a common problem in baseball after five straight years of declining offense. But Seattle and Oakland are especially feeble. Their ballparks make the situation even worse.
Really have to wonder if any fans will show up in Seattle and Oakland this year. Not many do any more, that’s for sure.
