Rays Pitch a Shutout

The Rays complete a 1-0 shutout of the Red Sox on Patriots Day. James Shields lasted 8 1/3 innings, with Fernando Rodney closing the game. Cody Ross ended the contest striking out looking as the home plate umpire appeared to give Rodney strikes off the plate. Tampa Bay avoids the sweep, and sends Boston back into sole possession of last place in the AL East.

The Rays went 0 for 7 with runners in scoring position, Boston 0 for 3, the only run scoring on one of seven walks issued to the Rays.
