A. J. A-1

A.J. Burnett made an impressive debut with the Pittsburgh Pirates, pitching seven shutout innings against the Cardinals as the Pirates take the game 2-0. Burnett was in control, walking two and striking out seven. It appeared that he controlled the strike zone as well, as he only threw 76 pitches, 53 for strikes. The last two seasons he seemed to wear out around the fifth inning, but if he can keep his pitch count down, that may not happen. The Cardinals offense started the season hot, so this was a very good test for a pitcher who looked like he was on his way out.
