Verlander and Rangers Battle

Justin Verlander received the win in the 3-2 Tigers victory over the Rangers. His pitching line, however, indicates the Rangers worked him hard. Justin lasted just six innings, throwing 115 pitches. Since 77 were strikes and he faced 24 batters (with eight strikeouts), the Rangers appeared to foul off a lot of offerings. It was a good approach for Texas, as the first game took a bit of a toll on the Detroit pen, but the relievers allowed one run in three innings, and that was enough for the win.

Neftali Feliz saved the Texas bullpen, throwing 119 pitches and completing the eight innings the Rangers were on defense.

You are correct about the many, many foul balls the Rangers hit. However, the first game really didn’t take much out of the Tiger bullpen, despite Porcello’s early exit. Daniel Schlereth pitched two innings but was sent down to Toledo after the game, and long man Duane Below pitched the other six innings himself.
