Getting the Byrd

The Red Sox and Cubs completed a deal for Marlon Byrd, as the Red Sox are low on outfielders.

To acquire Byrd, the Red Sox sent right-hander Michael Bowden — who was designated for assignment last week — and a player to be named to Chicago.

The Cubs, with Theo Epstein as president of baseball operations and Jason McLeod as assistant general manager, are highly familiar with Bowden. They selected him in the 2005 First-Year Player Draft with the Red Sox.

Bowden had a great minor league career
, and he’s still young enough that he could mature into a useful major league pitcher.

Bowden DFA from the worst bullpen in history (LOL).

Hopefully Byrds 070 BA is actually his projected ERA.

PTBNL is probably someone on the DL (Carpenter being sent back, or Andrew Miller)
