Worried About Ubaldo

In four starts covering 24 innings, Ubaldo Jimenez walked 14 batters and struck out 13. A walk rate near equal to or higher than a pitcher’s strikeout rate raises a huge red flag in my book. The most noticable difference between Ubaldo this year and last is a drop in velocity on both his fastball change up. Batters are getting a longer look at his pitches, and swinging at them less. When they do swing at a pitch, they are making contact more often. Simply put, batters are doing a great job of being more selective against Ubaldo, and the result is more walks and fewer strikeouts. Yes, Indians fans should be worried.
