Weaving a No-Hitter

Jared Weaver just completed five no-hit innings against the hapless Twins. He faced just one batter over the minimum as a cut fastball resulted in both a strike out and a passed ball, Chris Parmelee reaching first base. The Angles lead 9-0, so Weaver can pitch in comfort and not worry too much about losing the lead. He’s struck out six so far.

Kendrys Morales has half a cycle with a home run and a double. He’s drive in three runs.

Update: Weaver gets another strikeout as he pitches his fifth 1-2-3 innings of the game. He keeps his no-hitter intact through six innings, the Angels still leading 9-0.

Update: Weaver issues a walk in the seventh, but still no hits. He’s thrown 98 pitches, 62 for strikes. He looked a bit wild in that inning, maybe he’s wearing out a bit.

Update: Weaver retires all three batters in the eighth on a fly to center and two foul pop outs. He’ll go the ninth with a no-hitter intact, having walked one and struck out eight.

Update: Weaver is a good candidate for a no-hitter, as he allowed one of the lowest BAs in the majors since the start of the 2010 season.

In the sixth inning, Pujols flied out marking his 100th AB of the season with 21 hits, no home runs. Dave if you would run the 100 AB analysis similar to what you did on Jeter last year it would be greatly appreciated.

Ha, found your article just moments after I posted my question. Thanks and I agree the OBP may be more telling. Do you know if this is the worst 100 AB stretch in Albert’s career? I’m guessing it is.

Then again, we thought Jeter was dead after 200 ABs last year, didn’t we.

Thanks again, you do some really good stuff here.
