The Red Sox seem to be counting as many tickets as they can to keep their sell-out streak alive. At some point, enough people won’t show up that it will be obvious to everyone the streak is over.

That point has been reached for over a year, especially the Oakland series. NESN does a good job of trying not to show the empty seats, but there were too many to hide. Thats what prompted the story by the Globe (owned by a Red Sox minority owner), talking about hundreds of unsold seats instead of thousands.
You can get tickets for any game on the same day, even Fenways 100 year anniversary game against the Yankees.
Even 3 years ago I bought 15 tickets 2 days ahead of a Yankees game in June. One block of 6 right behind the Red Sox dugout and another 9 grandstand seats for my cheaper relatives (all together).
