The Mets beat the Rays 9-6 Thursday afternoon, but Tampa Bay scored two runs in the bottom of the ninth and had the bases loaded with two out before Frank Francisco struck out Ben Zobrist to end the game. Kirk Nieuwenhuis hit two home runs to lead the Mets offense, and David Wright added three hits to raise his average to .358.
Johan Santana had another rough outing, giving up four runs in five innings on six hits and four walks. Thanks to the early scoring by New York, he did pick up the win. He allowed ten runs in ten innings since the no hitter.
