The Orioles hit eight doubles Thursday night as they sweep the Pirates, winning the final game 12-6. That’s the most doubles in a game for the Orioles since they hit nine on Aug. 14, 2009. In the last 50 years, it’s the seventh time they reached the eight doubles level. Matt Wieters and Mark Reynolds each hit two of them and both collected four hits.
Combined the the Reds sweep of the Indians and the Mets sweep of the Rays, the Pirates find themselves three games back in the NL Central, while the Orioles sit atop the wild card race in the AL, two games ahead of Tampa Bay.
