Bobby Valentine Q and A

Bobby Valentine

Bobby Valentine will take questions next.

Update: Asked about number of types of pitches thrown by Japanese players, and why they are reduced here. MLB decided at some point to have pitchers throw a few pitches well.

Wants pitchers to develop complementary pitches to fool batters.

How do tell if a manager is doing well? Ask the players if the are happy!

Bobby doesn’t think a W/L record out of sync with runs scored and allowed should be blamed on the manager.

Valentine is making it clear that he depends a lot on his coaches for communication up and down with the players and the front office. The manager today is really managing a whole organization on the field.

Asked about strikeouts being so high, Bobby thinks umpires don’t see pitchers enough to learn the movement. He’s all for robot calls of balls and strikes.

    Hah! I bet.

    (But he’s probably right.)
