Roberto Kelly recovered from his encounter with a batted ball.
According to Janie McCauley of the Associated Press, Kelly was sent home after only an hour or two in the hospital. He has a concussion, but he wants to be on the field for Game 1 of the NLCS on Sunday night against the Cardinals and he could get his wish if team doctors clear him beforehand.
I’m glad he’s feeling better, but if he has a concussion, the best thing to do is rest. MLB made great strides in recognizing that concussions are serious injuries, and Kelly should rest until he’s 100%.
Roberto Kelly?
Jeez, I remember when the Yankees traded him pretty much straight up for Paul O’Neill.
rbj » Yes, one of the great deals in Yankees history. I think Roberto was often traded for someone who proved to be a better player.
Kelly actually found his way back to the Yankees in 2000 as a backup outfielder. He was injured early in the year and spent most of it on the DL, where I assume he collected a ring and a nice postseason check.
I was kind of bummed the day the Yankees traded him. He had been one of the few bright spots on those Yankee teams. My mistake!
