Giants in the Ninth

The Cardinals did not score in the eighth, so the Giants come up in the ninth trailing 3-1. Angel Pagan pops out to third to start the inning. One down.

Update: Scutaro grounds out to first for the second out. Jason Motte is one out away from a two-inning save.

Update: Sandoval flies out to center on a 1-2 pitch, and the Cardinals win 3-1. They take a 2-1 lead in the NLCS. With the way the ALCS is going we could easily wind up with the two teams from each league with the worst regular season record in the World Series.

So much for the obstacle course for the wild card teams (for the Cardinals, anyway). I suspect Detroit’s run is a conspiracy to allow the anti-sabermetics crowd to feel more smug about voting about Cabrera over Trout in the AL MVP race.*

*–not really, but if one was constructing such a conspiracy it would pretty much involve Detroit making an improbable run to the World Series, wouldn’t it? If Cabrera was actually doing anything notable, rather than simmering with a sub .800 OPS for the postseason, it would be perfect.

Astros vs. Twins? Might provide a more compelling series than Tigers/Yankees…
