The latest Hall of Fame Gizmo shows that with 105 ballots published, no one is close to the 75% level, and in fact in looks like a number of players are fading. If I do the math right, voters are on average listing 6.4 players per ballot. It looks like there is a big disagreement on who those six should be. It’s sad to see that Kenny Lofton might fall off the ballot.
The HOF is now irrelevant (excluding famous players in their day like Clemens, Bonds, McGuire, etc) and will continue to be so until they free the writers from judging a players character and morality. Better that nobody gets elected than those elected primarily because they were deemed to be clean.
If someone has character issues that make them unworthy of the HOF, they should not be on the ballot. The HOF/MLB should have some pre-selection committee that judges this, and writers are should be excluded from this process.
Disgraceful. It may be time to start a movement to find a new entity to represent MLB immortality, since the HoF board seems to be just fine with the malignant stewardship that the BBWAA is providing in that area. Let Cooperstown keep the dusty, irrelevant museum full of things and take the real history elsewhere.
I think the Baseball Hall of Fame is a wonderful place and could not disagree more with the two previous posters.
I’d like to see Biggio get voted in. He was a stellar, and often unappreciated, player and was a great role model in Houston as well. He deserves it.
Let’s wait and see who gets what votes before judging worthiness of the voters.

I’m biased as an Astros fan. For me Biggio getting over 3,000 hits and being ranked by Bill James as one of the best 2d basemen of all time makes him worthy in my opinion. I think there is a good case for Raines, but when I was watching him while growing up I never thought of him as a HOFer. Guys like Winfield, Brett, Ryan, etc were obvious to me. Having to make a case that someone belongs in the Hall is akin to the famous Joe Louis quote of, “If you have to tell them, then you ain’t.”
