Games of the Day

There a high number of pitchers taking the mound today with high ERAs. This could be a very good day to watch if you like runs.

Ervin Santana takes on Ryan Dempster in the first game of the Royals/Red Sox split double header. Santana’s strikeouts and walks are outstanding so far, with teams only able to nick him for runs on homers. The four long balls allowed led to five of the seven runs against him. Dempster keeps fooling batters, with 25 K in 17 innings, but has yet to record a win.

The ESPN game features Jake Westbrook and Kyle Kendrick as the Cardinals battle the Phillies. Westbrook owns an odd line this season. In 15 2/3 innings he’s yet to allow an earned run despite 10 walks and just four strikeouts. Opponents are 2 for 24 against him with men on base with no extra base hits. Kendrick is not quite that extreme, but his .192 BA allowed with runners on base is still very good.

Enjoy!
