Andrew Bailey blows his fourth save of the season as Jhonny Peralta hits a two-run homer in the bottom of the ninth to give the Tigers a 4-3 victory over the Red Sox. Bailey faced two batters, walking Victor Martinez to put the tying run on base, the giving up the bomb to Peralta.
For most of the year, Bailey’s problem was putting runners on base, but he was very good at keeping them there. If his numbers with men on catch up to his bases empty numbers, closing just won’t work.
His problem recently has been the HR ball, thats his 4th HR in 5 games (4 innings)
Pretty sure he is no longer the closer after today, might be headed to the DL or mop up duty.
Random, sort of related question: Why is Brian Wilson still available? Is he asking too much for a contract offer, or is there a consensus among general managers that he’s too much of an injury risk to put in the bullpen even as a 3-4 month rental?
