Yasiel Puig hits another home run, putting the Dodgers up 1-0 over the Padres in the top of the first. Puig is so strong, he can even hit a ball out of PETCO Park! Puig reaches six home runs in less than 60 at bats, and is now hitting .483 with a .508 OBP and an .845 slugging percentage. He’s the late career Barry Bonds with hits instead of walks.
Unfortunately, he seems to have picked up a case of the old Steve Garvey/young Matt Kemp disorder (swinging at low and outside pitches, particularly breaking balls). I was watching the Padres broadcast on MLB Extra Innings, and the San Diego color commentator (not Tony Gwynn, some other guy in the booth with Enberg whose voice I didn’t recognize) was rude enough to invoke the name of Pedro Cerrano on one of the resulting K’s. A bit harsh, unless Puig suddenly shows up with a voodoo doll to put in his locker.
