Mark Teixeira needs surgery on his wrist and will miss the rest of 2013. That’s one less piece the Yankees can get back to improve the team. So far, Curtis Granderson, Kevin Youkilis, and now Teixeira have failed to remain in action once they returned.
Did the Yanks overpay for Tex (sabermetrically)? He sure seems like a bust to this fan.
Mike-n-Ike » Yes. However, they did a World Championship out of it.
Mike-n-Ike » Of course, there’s been a great deal of salary inflation since they signed Mark, so it may work out okay if they can get a couple of healthy years. It’s not the Vernon Wells deal.
I think it is for the best. When I first heard of his injury I was pretty sure he would not be an effective hitter this year even if he came back. They are better off with Overbay than an ineffective Tex.
Granderson and Arod could be a big help in the 2nd half.
Jeters return not so much since he will kill them at SS defensively and can’t be counted to hit well enough for DH.
