San Diego visits Fenway Park, with the teams strongly related by front office personnel. Robbie Erlin takes on John Lackey in the interleague game. The rookie Erlin pitched well so far, with 12 K and one walk in 15 innings of work in both starting and relief roles. A left-hander, he’s been very effective against RHB so far. Lackey is a home body, with a 1.36 ERA at Fenway this season. He’s only allowed three of his 10 home runs in Boston.
No Losses, the Corbin Project makes a stop in New York as Patrick Corbin pits his 9-0 record against Jeremy Hefner. No Diamondbacks starter won a game in their last 23 starts. Four of Corbin’s starts in the time frame were high quality starts. Hefner is coming off a great June in which he kept the ball in the park to the tune of a 1.80 ERA.
Corey Kluber and Luis Mendoza square off in the Indians/Royals game with identical 4.16 ERAs.
Finally, David Price returns to the mound for the Rays as he faces Erik Bedard and the Astros. Price was allowing home runs at about twice his 2012 rate before the injury sidelined him. Bedard strikes out more batters and gives up fewer home runs at home, where his ERA stands at 2.48.
Enjoy!
