Perfect Homer

Homer Bailey is perfect through five innings. He’s struck out four batters, throwing 54 pitches, 37 for strikes. The Reds lead the Giants 1-0.

Update: Bailey strikes out all three batters in the sixth. Nine outs to go for the perfect game.

Update: Gregor Blanco walks leading off the seventh. The no-hitter is still intact.

Update: Joey Votto saves the no-hitter with a heads up play. Votto ranges far to his right for a ground ball, but Bailey did not cover first (it was a bit of a line drive that fell short). Blanco, at second, tries to go to third and Votto throws him out for the fielder’s choice rather than an infield hit. Two down in the seventh.

Update: Bailey strikes out Pablo Sandoval on a 3-2 count and he completes seven no-hit innings.
