Walk Off Error

The Cardinals record their first walk-off win of the season, beating the Marlins 5-4. With Jon Jay on first and two out in the ninth, Shane Robinson singled to right. As Jay flew to third, Giancarlo Stanton threw in to the cutoff man, who let the throw get by him. No one was there as the pitcher was backing up the plate, and Jay was able to score easily for the win. The play by play I’m looking at gave Stanton the error, but I thought the infielder was two nonchalant on the play. The Marlins have been playing better of late, so this is a very bad way to lose a game.

That ain’t all. In this game the home plate umpire called a Marlin player out at the plate in the 4th inning when the player was CLEARLY safe. Score should have been tied 5-5 at that point in the 9th.

This is the second night in a row where the umpires made an obvious bad call-both of them against the Marlins. Last night it was an out on a force play when it should have been a play requiring a tag. OOPS! The umpires admitted it was a mistake after the game….yeah, okay. But the Marlins lost a runner at third and were given an out that they shouldn’t have been. It could have changed that game. The mistake DID change today’s game.

Right now if I were a Marlin fan, I’d want to punch someone in the face. I’d probably think the umpires are out to get me too.

The NL Central is tight, tight, tight. The umpires just can’t do these things, especially when it could have playoff implications.

    I want instant replay. NOW!
