The Dodgers completed a road trip that spanned the first 11 day of July with a 7-5, 14 inning victory over the Diamondbacks. They tied the game with two out in the ninth, then hit back-to-back home runs in the 14th to move 1 1/2 games behind Arizona.
The Dodgers offense posted great numbers on this trip, and the offense was the weak point of the team during the first half of the season. Not only did they slug .500 as a team, they did a great job of starting innings off right. With none on and none out, Los Angeles batters reached base at a .417 clip. That means over 40% of innings started with a man on base (or a run on the seven homers), setting up the possibility of a big inning. They tended to continue the rallies, with a .428 OBP before the first out. They’re starting to look like the team the new ownership thought they assembled.
Yasiel Puig‘s average finally dipped below .400 after the game. We’ll see if he can bring it over .400 again.
Puig is 9-for-last-36 (.250), with no homers in that time.
Perhaps pitchers are figuring him out… will he be able to adjust?
