The Reds and Braves continue their series with Homer Bailey facing Mike Minor in Atlanta. Homer’s losing record despite a good ERA has something to do with his home/road split. He’s just 2-6 away from Cincinnati, posting a 4.61 ERA. For some reason, he’s easier to hit on the road. Minor, hitting his prime at age 25, is posting the best ERA of his career. His K rate is up and his walk rate is down, so his high HR rate is not as troublesome as in the past.
Derek Holland tries to hang defeat on Max Scherzer as the Rangers take on the Tigers. Holland is 5-1 on the road, and only two of his eight homers allowed came away from Texas. Scherzer pitched well enough to win his last time out, but the Tigers needed extra inning to pull out the victory. Detroit is 15-3 in his 18 starts. Max makes his second attempt at going 14-0.
Finally, Tyler Chatwood faces Zack Greinke as the Rockies try to make it two in a row against the Dodgers. Chatwood’s low ERA comes from figuring out how to keep the ball in the park this year. He allowed nine homers in 64 2/3 innings in 2012, two homers in 62 1/3 so far in 2013. Zack pitches extremely well at Dodger Stadium, with a 2.70 ERA and just 7 walks in 36 2/3 innings.
Enjoy!
