The Mariners 4-3 win over the Angels gave Seattle their first sweep of the season. They also have a home run streak going:
The Mariners have homered in 22 consecutive games, the longest streak in the majors since Atlanta’s 23-game run in 2006. Seattle’s string is the best by an AL club since Texas set the big league record with 27 in 2002.
The streak hasn’t helped them win that much, as they went 11-11 so far. They did try to improve their power output this season, moving in the fences and trading for more power hitters. Looks like that worked. The Mariners are just two games behind the high-priced Angels going into the All-Star break.
If the Mariners could add another starter and get some bullpen help they could be above 500.
Ibanez and Morales and a rejuvenated Smoak make this a tougher lineup. Unfortunately, their bet on Bay did not pay off even if he has as many HR as Mike Napoli. Whatever happened to that guy, he used to hit 400+ bombs with the Red Sox and turned into a pumpkin overnight.
