Ks for Kazmir

Scott Kazmir pitched six strong innings for the Indians as they down the Twins 3-1. He walked one and struck out eight batters, the one run allowed lowering his ERA to 4.25. For the season, he’s walked 41 and struck out 115 in 125 innings. His hits allowed are higher than one would expect for that K rate, but it could be a combination of poor defense, and Scott trying to hard not to walk batters and putting the ball in a hitable part of the strike zone too often. Sitll, it’s a huge improvement over his 2010/2011 seasons, and makes him a valuable contributor.

My impression is that he’s been either dominating or awful, with very little in between, so that the strikeouts and hits are piling up in different games. I wonder if the stats bear that out. When he’s on, he’s been very impressive.
