Heaven Freeseing Over

The Cardinals traded David Freese to the Angels:

The third baseman and Cardinals relief pitcher Fernando Salas were acquired by the Angels in exchange for center fielder Peter Bourjos and outfield prospect Randal Grichuk.

Angels third basemen hit poorly in 2013. Freese seems to have lost his power, but he’s not an out machine, and that should help the Angels. Grichuk will play 2014 as a 22 year old, so there’s still lots of upside potential in him. He’s shown good power so far in the minor leagues, but his OBP could use some work.

I was hoping the Dodgers might trade for Bourjos–a decent hitting fourth outfielder who could easily cover any of the three positions, along with the Dodgers moving (probably) Ethier for whatever they could get for him would probably have been ideal for the current situation. Ah well, at least Trout will play center now and might have a better shot at MVP playing a full year there, assuming the dinosaurs can’t come up with another excuse to screw him if he continues at this or a higher level of performance.
