Re: Joyce

Ben Joyce of the Angels threw the fastest pitch of the pitch-tracking era to end the 5-4 win over the Mets Saturday night, 104.7 MPH.

Joyce has a 23-inning scoreless streak and has not allowed a run in 18 straight outings since June 14.

ESPN.com

Joyce threw ten innings in his rookie year of 2023, his fastball averaging 100.9 MPH. In 24 2/3 innings this season, that average is up to 101.9 MPH. On top of that, he added a sinker and a changeup. The sinker gives him an unusual profile as a high velocity pitcher who doesn’t strike out batters at a high per innings rate. He is getting a ton of ground balls, however, with a BABIP of .242 and no home runs allowed. His sinker (I assume a two-seam fastball) comes in at 97 MPH. Batters are swinging for 101, catch up to the 97, but top it for weak grounders. So far it’s been effective.
