Poor Lee

Dylan Lee of the Braves faces four batters in the top of the first inning against the Astros. He gives up a single, walks a batter, records a strikeout, then walks Yordan Alvarez to load the bases. That’s it for the rookie, as the Braves go to the bullpen.

Update: Kyle Wright comes on to pitch.

Update: Carlos Correa grounds slowly to third, and the Astros take a 1-0 lead on the ground out.

Update: Kyle Tucker strikes out swinging to end the inning. The Braves get out of big trouble with just one run allowed.

Playoffs Today

The Astros and Braves meet in Atlanta for game four of the 2021 World Series, the Braves leading the best of seven series two games to one. Veteran Zack Greinke of the Astros takes the hill against rookie Dylan Lee.

Greinke’s post-season history shows streakiness. He pitched well over some stretches, poorly over others. Overall he lags behind his regular season numbers with a 4-6 record in 21 appearances, a 4.29 ERA, and 19 home runs allowed in 109 innings.

Lee pitched a total of 4 2/3 major league innings, two in the regular season and 2 2/3 in the post season. He’s allowed three run, mostly on two home runs, but has not walked a batter and struck out six. The low walk numbers are for real. He allowed just 81 walks in 294 minor league innings. He also kept home runs down in the minors.

That said, he is not a starter. Only 25 of his 156 games in the minors were starts, none at AA or AAA. He will be in to pitch two innings at the most.

Enjoy!
