Deer in the Headlights

Baseball fans are not the only inhabitants of Chicago happy Rob Deer is now working for the Cubs. 🙂

Rob is one of the great three-true outcome hitters. Going back to 1957, he ranks sixth in the majors among players with 1500 PA at the percent of plate appearances that ended in a walk (or HBP), strikeout, or home run. Jack Cust is number one at 53.5%, then Dave Nicholson, Russell Branyan, Adam Dunn, Mark Reynolds, and Deer at 49.8%. If he can teach the Cubs to be more selective at the plate, he just might make a big improvement in the offense.
