Career Day

Ronny Paulino finished a 5 for 7 night with an RBI double in the 14th inning putting the Mets ahead for the 2-1 win over the Phillies. It was the first hit for the Mets in the game with runners in scoring position in a night they went 1 for 16 in the situation. The Phillies as a team managed just two more hits than Paulino as Mets starter Chris Young allowed just two hits in his seven innings of work, out pitching Cliff Lee in that regard, although both allowed just one run. Both pens did a great job until Kyle Kendrick gave up the winning run.

Paulino had a good rookie season, batting .310/.360/.394, very good for a catcher. He hit okay for Florida in 2009, but for his career he’s .275/.330/.384. Again, good for a catcher. He’ll remember last night a long time.

Paulino Suspended

Major League Baseball ended Ronny Paulino’s season as he tested positive for a performance enhancing drug.

Paulino tested positive for an unspecified performance-enhancing substance and his suspension begins immediately, MLB announced Friday.

The 29-year-old has played in 91 games for Florida this year, hitting .259 with four homers and 37 RBI. He has been the Marlins’ regular starter behind the plate this season, including four of their last five games.

Looking at Paulino’s stats, he’s another data point on the steroids don’t help poor hitters much curve.
