Who Needs a Bullpen

Jeff Niemann pitches the second complete game of the day for the Rays as Tampa Bay earns a split with a 6-2 win in the night cap. Even a triple play turned by the Red Sox could not stop the Rays this evening. Jeff walked one and struck out ten to earn his eighth win against four losses.

The last time a team recorded two complete games in one day was on August 13, 1993 when Milwaukee accomplished the feat. They beat Detroit 6-1 behind Angel Miranda and 7-1 behind Ricky Bones.

rbj » I don’t know, but it’s possible. I remember in the early 1970s, Wilbur Wood started game one of a double header against the Yankees, and was chased early for the loss. The White Sox brought him back to start game two, and he lost that one, also.
